Kaycha operates the largest network of cannabis laboratories in the US and over the past five years, the company has become recognized as a premier lab testing company and a leader in the industry. The regulated market in Colorado has continued to lead the nation in cannabis testing regulations and the Kaycha laboratory there has grown positively every year since it’s opening in 2015.
Mr. Oberhill graduated with a bachelor's in chemistry from Michigan State University, and he achieved a master’s degree in environmental health and safety from the University of Denver. Kaycha Labs, a leader in cannabis and hemp testing technologies, was granted its license to commence operations of cannabis testing in California.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (December 30, 2021) – On December 27, Kaycha Labs was granted its license to commence operations of cannabis compliant testing in the state of California.
During the regulatory licensing review process, Kaycha’s Monrovia Lab was staffed with a team of skilled analysts, equipped with all new state-of-the-art equipment, and ISO accredited. The analysts were trained by veteran Quality Assurance, Compliance and Lab Directors from existing sister laboratories. In addition, the company’s proprietary Laboratory Information Management System (Pure LIMS) was installed and updated to ensure compliance with all California mandated detection limit standards. The lab is now accepting samples from clients to perform the full array of compliant and R&D testing across all matrices.
James Horvath, Kaycha Chief Executive Officer, commented, “We are excited to be in a state that knows the importance of reliable and accurate testing, as well as the risks of an unpoliced testing environment. California’s enacted legislation signed by Governor Newsome imposing precise criteria and guidelines for testing of pesticides, microbiological contaminants, residual solvents, and cannabis compounds should go a long way in ensuring consistent testing results. This is a huge win for the industry and cannabis consumers.”
President, Chris Martinez, also noted, “We are also pleased that the Department of Cannabis Control’s (“DCC”) license review process was one of, if not the most, rigorous exams Kaycha has completed. The DCC’s rigorous review of our methods, standards and procedures across all 8 method validation categories gives us, and more importantly the California cannabis market, confidence that Kaycha will be delivering best-in-class testing to California growers, extractors and manufacturers.”

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (November 2, 2021) – On October 29, Kaycha Labs, a leader in Cannabis and Hemp testing technologies, was granted its last required regulatory approval and will commence operations of cannabis compliant testing in Massachusetts on November 2.
During the regulatory licensing review process, Kaycha’s Natick lab was staffed with a team of skilled analysts, equipped with new state-of-the-art equipment, and ISO accredited. The analysts were trained by veteran Quality Assurance, Compliance and Lab Directors from existing sister laboratories. In addition, the company’s proprietary Laboratory Information Management System (PURElims®) was installed and updated to ensure compliance with all Massachusetts mandated detection limit standards. The lab is now accepting samples from clients to perform the full array of compliant and R&D testing across all matrices.
John Schwartz, Chief Operating Officer, highlighted, “Our entire Natick lab team is excited to launch operations in Massachusetts. In addition to delivering consistent and high-quality testing that clients expect and deserve, our PURElims® technology platform provides clients with point and click access with white labeling capabilities, rich data sets, occurrence reporting, pheno-hunting analytics, and process validation reports – all of which should translate into more informed decision-making for our clients to optimize their product mix, reduce costs, and enhance profitability. And having spent more than three decades residing and raising my family in Massachusetts, I am very proud to launch Kaycha in my home state.”
Chief Executive Officer, James Horvath, also noted, “Massachusetts has always been on the top of our target list. In addition to appreciating the regulator’s intense focus on consumer safety evidenced by having some of the most stringent detection limits of any market, we know that our efficient workflow processes should go a long way in alleviating the turnaround time issues facing many of the state’s cannabis growers and processors. Our experience in building a network of 10 labs in 9 states and having already faced every challenge imaginable, we know we can provide Massachusetts’ clients with a differentiated and more robust suite of testing and data services.”

With locations across the U.S., Kaycha Labs is establishing a national network of Cannabis and Hemp labs that provide essential product quality and safety information.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (October 12, 2021) – Through its wholly owned affiliate, MH Verify, Kaycha Labs, a leader in Cannabis and Hemp testing technologies and methods, has launched a Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd) In-Field Testing Kit solution. HLVd tests are performed on-site by cultivators and results are known within an hour of initiating the testing process.
HLVd is a single-stranded, circular infectious RNA strand with no protein coat. Infected flowering plants will have smaller and looser buds resulting in fewer trichomes. Over time, yields by weight can be reduced by up to 70% along with a loss of both potency and terpene concentration of up to 35%. Additionally, one infected mother plant could contaminate hundreds of adjacent plants or clones with the virus.
HLVd symptoms are often subtle, making it difficult to observe with the naked eye. We have found that cultivators are able to convert a subjective judgement into an objective fact, utilizing the highly effective diagnostic kit. The HLVd test kit allows for growers to detect the pathogen and take private, preventative actions to possibly stop the viroid from contaminating their crop further.
Chris Martinez, President of Kaycha Labs, details the potential costs of ignoring HLVd, “If a single uninfected cannabis plant produces 3 pounds of flower and current pricing is $1,500 per pound, the revenue potential for that one plant is $4,500. An infected plant experiencing both a 70% diminished yield and a decrease in potency of 35% would only generate ~$880 in revenue, translating into a revenue loss of ~$3620 (80% overall loss). And knowing that there are 100’s of neighboring plants, the potential business impact to a cultivator is devastating.”
Chief Science Officer, Stephen Goldman, also notes, “As with most obligate pathogens, prevention is key, which starts with early detection. The most reliable and sensitive means of detection is accomplished by viral RNA testing and our field test kit can help growers identify and mitigate the spread of pathogens like HLVd in their cannabis and hemp plants.”
More information on HLVd and the Kaycha’s kit’s features are accessible at mhverify.com.

Working with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to create Cannabis Lab Competency Standards and improve Analyte Measurement Comparability.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida (August 18, 2021) – Kaycha Labs, a leader in Cannabis and Hemp testing technologies and methods, is proud to announce its successful participation in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Cannabis Quality Assurance Program (CannaQAP).
By taking part in CannaQAP’s Exercise 1 (potency with 17 cannabinoids) and CannaQAP’s Exercise 2 (potency, heavy metals, and moisture content) interlaboratory testing programs, Kaycha has collaborated with non-regulatory bodies and other industry entities to address the need for standardization in Cannabis and Hemp testing.
“The NIST mediated interlaboratory study is another Kaycha initiative aimed at addressing the urgent need for standardized testing protocols and reporting consistent and accurate data. The most common complaint among our clients is inconsistent reporting. And the most common concern among regulators is “potency lab shopping,” explained Stephen Goldman, Chief Science Officer at Kaycha Labs. “To ensure that the study was comprehensive, five of our lab locations participated in the CannaQAP. Our results demonstrated that cannabis labs can easily provide consistent data across state geographies and that the standardization of testing protocols will assure all industry participants that labels are accurate and can be relied upon. In addition, our efforts should assist regulators address those lab companies putting out false potency claims and/or inaccurate data to curry favor with cannabis companies.”
Chris Martinez, President of Kaycha Labs, highlighted, “Participation in the NIST Cannabis Quality Assurance Program was an obvious choice for our company. As a leading cannabis lab company with a network of labs in multiple states, it is imperative we demonstrate that our labs apply compliant and consistent testing methodologies. Assuring all industry participants, including State and Federal government regulators, that precise and consistent testing data is the norm will benefit the entire industry.”
ABOUT KAYCHA LABS: Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Kaycha Labs has testing labs in California, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Tennessee.
